West Bay Driving Tour

Head north along West Bay Road (keeping the sea on your left). Once you pass the four way stop next to Centennial Towers, you are in the district of West Bay.
Take a left at the four-way stop and park. Walk towards the sea and turn left onto Boggy Sand Road, which runs parallel to the beach. This little road gives you a glimpse of the Cayman Islands of yesteryear: lined on either side with quaint, traditional Caymanian houses painted in shades of pastel surrounded by colourful shrubs, you will feel you have stepped back in time momentarily. This is a great place to see some examples of Caymanian architecture and of the typical sand gardens adorned with conch shells. Boggy Sand Road is one of the most picturesque streets on the island. Be sure to grab a bite to eat at Heritage Kitchen, where they serve a delicious array of Caribbean-style dishes.
Continue on the main road, hugging the coast. If you set out early and need some sustenance, stop either at West Bay Diner on the right hand side of the road, where you can get a hearty breakfast, or enjoy a coffee or juice at Alfresco, just a few yards further on, one the other side of the road. Alfresco has a lovely little deck looking out to sea, and sits on one of the best stretches of Seven Mile Beach. For delicious and innovative vegetarian fare overlooking the ocean stop at VIVO, located at Divetch. This popular spot also offers teas, coffees, organic wines and local beers.
Keep driving and, when you come to a fork in the road, stay left, following the coast. Within less than five minutes you will arrive at a large parking area adjacent to Dolphin Discovery and opposite the Turtle Centre. Both are well worth a visit: interact and swim with friendly dolphins at Dolphin Discovery or play with turtles, snorkel, and learn all about Caymanian traditions at the Turtle Centre. Just a few yards further along you will come to the Cracked Conch and Macabuca. This is a great location, right on the water, with the choice of a casual outdoor bar and deck and a more elegant fine dining restaurant. There is also a dive shop on site as this is the entry point for Turtle Reef, an excellent shore dive. This is an ideal place to stop for lunch or just to swim and have a cold drink.
Take a 15 minute detour to ‘Hell’ (Take Watercourse Road, off N W Point Road/Boastswain Road and look out for the turning on the left). Check out the black limestone, visit the gift shop and send a postcard from ‘Hell’.
Get back onto N W Point Road/Boatswain Road and eventually it will turn into a rough dirt road when you enter Barkers National Park, Cayman’s first, and only, National Park. A rugged and windswept beach, you can easily find a secluded spot all to yourself. Not the best beach for swimming but if you want to escape the crowds or do a little beach combing, it is ideal. If you are able to book in advance you can go horseback riding with Pampered Ponies along the beach here, or have a go at kitesurfing. Check out Ristorante Pappagallo near the park entrance, one of Cayman's best and most picturesque Italian restaurants which located on the water (open 6pm- 10pm).
Exit the park the way you came in and take the second major road on your left. Continue along this road until you come to a T-junction, where you can take a left to Morgan’s Harbour where you'll find Calypso Grill and a full service marina. Enjoy a relaxing drink or some excellent fresh seafood at this restaurant.
Return to the main road, turn left and continue until you reach the four-way stop. Take another left here and you are back on West Bay Road, in time to catch the sunset at one of the beach bars along SMB.
